Lawson State Enrollment Numbers Continue to Break Records
September 2010 – BIRMINGHAM, AL - Lawson State Community College has witnessed another record enrollment increase.
As of now, enrollment numbers show that 5572 students have enrolled for Fall Semester 2010 which reflects a 28 percent increase over Fall 2009 number of 4354. Fall Semester 2009 numbers recorded a 21% increase over the 2008 numbers of 3610.
“Many assess that tough economic times impact enrollment increases,” said Dr. Cynthia Anthony, Dean of Student. “However, a greater percentage of our increase is probably attributed to the preparation and efforts by the recruitment team, admissions office and other personnel. “
Preliminary reports for the College showed that more students had met all financial obligations that in the previous year. This was in spite of a slight increase in tuition effective for Fall 2010.
“The increase in enrollment causes you to be creative in terms of budgetary considerations and even classroom and space utilization,” said Sharon Crews, Vice President of Administrative and Student Service. “It’s a challenge, but a welcome challenge.”
