ACT Residual Information

All pre-nursing students making application to the Nursing Program must take the ACT Residual.  ACT Residual Testing is offered for students who are enrolled and have been admitted to the college.  At Lawson State Community College, an ACT score is a requirement for the application process for the Department of Health Professions Nursing Program.   The ACT Residual Exam and the ACT National Exam is replacing the TEAS V exam.  Please consult the Department of Health Professions regarding additional information. ACT restricts the number of times a student may take the ACT to twelve (12) times, Residual Testing Does count toward that maximum of twelve (12) testing sessions.  Scores from testing sessions exceeding the maximum will be canceled without refund.  Students who would like to register for the exam may contact Dr. Renay Hernodon at (205-929-3419) or e-mail her at rherndon@lawsonstate.eduThe test will be administered on the Birmingham Campus (3060 Wilson Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35221) and you must arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes prior to the beginning of the test.  The ACT Residual is offered six times a year and the months will be listed on the website, under test dates.

Official photo identification is required.  You may bring two (2) #2 pencils.  Mechanical pencils are not allowed.  If you choose to use a calculator for the mathematics portion of the test, you may bring a calculator.  However, testing proctors will not provide calculators and you are responsible for knowing which calculators are prohibited.  No other items will be allowed.  Scratch paper will be provided.  This is a timed test that takes approximately 3 Hours to complete.  Testing will start promptly at 9:00 a.m., please be on time.  The cost to take the exam is $55.00 and must be paid within 72 hours of registering for the exam. 

Payment can be made at the cashier’s office on the Birmingham campus (3060 Wilson Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35221).  Space is limited. It is recommended that you pay and register as soon as possible.  The fee is non-refundable and reserves a place for the originally scheduled test date only.
