A Salute to Black History
Understanding Wisdom And FOREVER Appreciating The Past
~ Associate Dean of Business and Information Technologies (BIT) Division ~ ~Chairperson of the BIT Birmingham Campus~ ~ Acting Director of the Small Business Center ~ ~ College Webmaster/BlackBoard/Tegrity Administrator ~
Below are links that will enrich your knowledge of the past and present selfless contributions made by just a FEW of our MANY great African Americans. As you read the wealth of information on this page, think about how our world would be today without the selfless contributions and what we have learned from the good and the bad. Also, recognize the unbending focus and intensity of their efforts despite repeated rejections and unfulfilled expectations.
We must continue to remember and respect our heritage
(even though one might not agree with the actions of some--it is still history) by
never saying good-bye to yesterday, for we are still standing on their
shoulders—yesterday made our present possible . . . |

THANK YOU Mr. President
For Your Warm and Genuine Smile

For A Mind That is Always Thinking

For preventing a second Great Depression:

For the humor:

For bringing the number of women in the Supreme Court to 3:

For making the White House the "People's" house:

For 1.1 million jobs created in 2010 alone:

For a genuine LOVE for the people (No matter
what size):

For the "showing" of a husband's LOVE:

For the LOVE of FAMILY:
For FATHERLY LOVE:

For Our Beautiful First Lady:

For Health Care Reform:

For leaving the past behind:

For the world having respect for America, again:

|
For being "Cool":

For being fierce when you need to be:

For having the intellect to be curious:

For the capacity to know that you are, as we are--imperfect:

For having the sense to not let the job destroy you!

For the capacity to be compassionate:

For being an inspiration for so many:

For saving the auto industry at least 1.4 million jobs:

For bringing 100,000 men and women back from Iraq
and
LOVING the troops:

For understanding the horrible price of war:
For facing the most difficult and loneliest job in the world with
grace, dignity, honesty and guts in spite of so many "Haters":

For being, in spite of all the hate, pettiness, racism, corruption
and immaturity around, the most progressive president in decades!
Just simply being MR. PRESIDENT

Alabama's Own -- Dr. Ethel H. Hall
The First African American Woman Elected to the Alabama State Board of Education

February 23, 1928 - November 12, 2011
Click Here To Read Her Story
In this wise, introspective, and touching memoir, Dr. Ethel Hall recounts the little "journeys" throughout her life which prepared her to become the first African American woman elected to the Alabama State Board of Education. Her experiences with racial tension, discrimination, and poverty are interspersed with portraits of the family and love which transformed her from a farmer's daughter --determined to achieve the higher education others thought to be impossible -- to a dedicated mother and educator, and even further to a statewide political leader. Dr. Hall also provides a detailed account of the problems faced—both during her more than two decades of service to the Alabama State Board of Education.

To define music at its best, Plato stated that, “Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything; It is the essence of order and lends to all that is good, just, and beautiful.” Moreover, Thomas Carlyle stated that, “Music is well said to be the speech of angels; in fact, nothing among utterances allowed to man is felt to be so divine. It brings us near the infinite.” The above quotes should always remind you of the beautiful Whitney Elizabeth Houston (Whitney). Whitney was a recording artist, actress, producer, and model. Her singing talents earned her the title of “The Most-Awarded Female Act of All Time”. Her Godsend talents gave us feelings in our hearts and souls, and her gospel lead us closer to God. She will always be remembered as the “Golden Voice” of our time. After Whitney sang the song--there were no other versions that could top her voice.

On January 12, 2010, the worst earthquake in 200 years - 7.0 in magnitude - struck less than ten miles from the Caribbean city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The initial quake was later followed by twelve aftershocks greater than magnitude 5.0. Structures of all kinds were damaged or collapsed, from shantytown homes to national landmarks. At the present (February 1, 2010), the Haitian earthquake caused an estimated 250,000 fatalities—and disease, starvation and lack of medical care could push the death toll higher.
